Criminal Law
When your liberty, reputation, and future are at stake, criminal law requires more than simply responding to charges—it requires strategy, experience, and decisive advocacy at every stage of the process. From the first appearance and bail hearing through pre-trial proceedings, trial, sentencing, and appeal, the guidance of an experienced criminal lawyer can make a critical difference
Vulnerable Clients
Mr. Tuhin Deb Munna provides compassionate, culturally informed criminal defence representation for vulnerable accused persons, including Indigenous, Aboriginal, and Black clients and those affected by mental health or substance use. He advocates thoughtfully at every stage, incorporating Gladue principles and appropriate reports while advancing dignity, rights, and reasonable alternatives to detention. Every client deserves to be heard. Every background matters. Every stage of the process matters.
Bail Defence
Mr. Tuhin Deb Munna brings extensive experience in complex bail hearings and reviews across Ontario, providing strategic, individualized advocacy to protect the constitutional right to reasonable bail. Following the significant bail reforms under Bill C-14, bail proceedings have become increasingly complex, requiring careful attention to reverse-onus provisions and release plans. Mr. Munna develops tailored strategies, challenges unnecessary conditions. He works with John Howard Society, Indigenous, mental health, and treatment resources.
Barrister and Solicitor
Barrister Tuhin Deb Munna is a dedicated criminal lawyer with extensive experience representing accused persons throughout the Ontario criminal justice system. Combining international legal training with substantial Canadian criminal litigation experience, he provides strategic, practical, and client-focused advocacy at every stage of a criminal matter—from bail and case management through Crown and judicial pre-trials, guilty pleas, sentencing, trial, bail reviews, and appeals.
Mr. Munna holds an LLB from the University of London and an LLM from Cardiff University, UK. He completed the Bar Professional Training Course at Cardiff University and was called to the Bar by The Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn, UK. He began his legal career practising as a Barrister before the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, where he developed a strong foundation in criminal litigation, trial advocacy, and appellate practice.
Since practising in Ontario, Mr. Munna has developed extensive hands-on experience in a broad range of criminal matters. His practice encompasses the full life cycle of criminal proceedings, including contested bail hearings and bail reviews, case management, Crown pre-trials, judicial pre-trials, trials, guilty pleas, sentencing, and appeals. His approach is grounded in thorough preparation, careful attention to the circumstances of each client, and determined advocacy aimed at protecting constitutional rights and achieving the best possible outcome.
Mr. Munna also has particular experience representing vulnerable members of the community, including Indigenous and Aboriginal clients, Black clients, and individuals affected by mental health and substance use issues. His experience includes Aboriginal law, Mental Health Court, and Drug Treatment Court. He takes a culturally informed and individualized approach to advocacy and carefully considers Gladue principles and, where appropriate, Gladue Reports, pre-sentence reports, and Morris Reports in presenting the client's background, circumstances, and rehabilitation needs to the court.
A significant part of Mr. Munna's practice involves bail defence. He has conducted numerous bail hearings and bail reviews across Ontario, including complex and highly contested matters. He advocates firmly for the constitutional right to reasonable bail and for the principle that pre-trial detention should remain a carefully scrutinized measure rather than the default. Where appropriate, he works with clients, families, John Howard Society bail programs, Indigenous support services, the Canadian Mental Health Association, treatment providers, and other community resources to develop practical and sustainable release plans
With a strong understanding of both common law and international legal frameworks, together with extensive experience navigating Ontario's criminal justice system, Mr. Munna brings a broad perspective to complex and cross-jurisdictional matters. He is committed to providing every client with knowledgeable, respectful, and determined representation while ensuring that their rights, dignity, and interests remain at the centre of the defence.
Every client deserves to be heard. Every background matters. Every stage of the process matters.
